Events Calendar

The LA Urban Center events are suspended effective immediately, until further notice.

New information regarding COVID-19 is coming in daily and current guidelines from relevant health agencies indicate that gatherings of more than 10 people should be avoided. These measures are necessary to slow the transmission of COVID-19 and to minimize overload to our healthcare systems and harm to vulnerable populations. By eliminating group gatherings, the LA Urban Center hopes to contribute positively to the ultimate outcome in this uncertain situation. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Below are upcoming events sponsored by the Los Angeles Urban Center

Stay longer and join us at El Pueblo to share your organization’s story to the Los Angeles community. You never know when Woodsy Owl will be encouraging us to ‘Give a Hoot’ for the environment, or when Smokey Bear will be reminding us about what we can do to help him with wildfire prevention and fire safety! Share, learn, connect, and leave energized!

Forest Service Webinar:
Redlining’s Intensifying Harm: Rising Temperatures, Hotter Neighborhoods, and How Trees Can Help

August 12, 2020
1:00 – 2:15pm ET

Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities often face the greatest burden of heat, air pollution, and flooding. These inequitable patterns and the related persistent disparities in human health are an enduring legacy of federal housing policies and practices from the 1960’s known as Redlining.

Please join our visiting scholar, Dr. Vivek Shandas as he presents a summary of Redlining and the current day implications on historically underserved communities.
